Conversion to API Gravity (60°F)
On this page the algorithm of working with the "Conversion to API (60°F)" tab is presented.
To convert density to and from API Gravity (60°F) the program uses tables and formulas from the GOSTs instead of the ASTM tables. This section was included in the program for rough estimate of correlation between the density standards in the absence of the ASTM tables. It is worth noting that GOST R 50.2.076-2010 almost completely coincides with the ASTM tables 54A, 54B and 54D. Concerning GOST 3900-85 the error does not exceed 0,5% when using the GOST for density converting.
Conversion to API Gravity (60°F) by GOST 3900-85
- To convert from kg/m3 to API degrees at 60°F, enter the density in kg/m3 and the temperature at which the measurement was made in the appropriate fields.
- Click on the "Calculate" button to get the result. The density at 20°C is also displayed in the window.
- To convert from API degrees at 60°F to kg/m3, enter the density in API degrees at 60°F and the temperature at which the measurement was made in the appropriate fields.
- Click on the "Calculate" button to get the mass. The density at 20°C is also displayed in the window.
- To change temperature units, you can use the context menu of the unit field (right mouse button) or double-click on this field (units will vary in a circle). If you check the "Recalculate when changing units" checkbox in the context menu, the program will recalculate the value in the "Temperature" field "on the fly." In settings, you can change the units for all tabs of the program at once.

- To convert from kg/m3 to API degrees at 60°F, enter the density in kg/m3 and the temperature at which the measurement was made in the appropriate fields.
- If you want to take into account the thermal expansion of the areometer glass, mark the corresponding check-box.
- Select the group to calculate: crude oil (density from 611,2 to 1163,8 kg/m3), oil products (density from 611,2 to 1163,9 kg/m3), lubricating oils (density from 801,3 to 1163,9 kg/m3).
- Click on the "Calculate" button to get the mass. The density at 15°C is also displayed in the window.
